Nepal Electricity Authority Posts NPR 11.36 Billion Profit in Six Months
Kathmandu — The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) recorded a profit of NPR 11.36 billion in the first six months of the current fiscal year 2081-82.
According to the Right to Information Act, the NEA disclosed that it earned a total revenue of NPR 70.44 billion from electricity sales, interest, and other sources during this period. Meanwhile, NPR 59.08 billion was spent on electricity purchases, administrative expenses, and various projects.
The pre-tax profit for the period from Shrawan to Poush stands at NPR 11.36 billion.
The NEA was operating at a loss of NPR 8.89 billion in the fiscal year 2072-73 but has consistently reported profits in subsequent years. In the previous fiscal year 2080-81, it posted a profit of NPR 14.46 billion. The NEA has been reinvesting its profits in expanding and strengthening infrastructure for electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and electrification projects.
During the first six months of the current fiscal year, the NEA collected NPR 53.18 billion from electricity sales. It also purchased 6.31 billion units of electricity, including 1.15 billion units from its subsidiaries and 5.16 billion units from private producers, costing NPR 34.84 billion.
The NEA imported 240.2 million units of electricity from India, paying NPR 1.65 billion, while exporting 1.77 billion units to India and earning NPR 13.09 billion.
Additionally, NPR 13.35 billion was invested in various projects and electrification initiatives from the government and foreign aid. An additional NPR 10.49 billion was spent directly through foreign assistance.
