World Cup-Winning Italian Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon Arrives in Nepal

Kathmandu – Italian football legend and 2006 World Cup-winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has arrived in Nepal today. He is attending the final of the third edition of the KP Oli Cup as the chief guest, an event organized by the National Youth Association Nepal. The final match is set to take place tomorrow at Dasharath Stadium.

Buffon had earlier announced his visit to Nepal through a video message, in which he even greeted fans in Nepali. With 176 international caps, Buffon holds the record for the most international appearances by a goalkeeper. He also captained the Italian national team in 80 matches. Buffon played in five consecutive FIFA World Cups from 1998 to 2014.

The KP Oli Cup final will see Machhindra FC take on Tribhuvan Army Club. Machhindra secured their spot in the final after a dominant 4-0 victory over KP FC in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Army Club defeated Sankata Club 2-1 to book their place in the final.
