Pratik Pandey Announces Candidacy for General Secretary of Janasamparka Samiti USA

  • August 12, 2026

  • VIRGINIA, USA — Pratik Pandey, a California resident and long-time political and social activist, has officially announced his candidacy for the post of General Secretary of the  Nepali Janasamparka Samiti USA, a sister organization of the Nepali Congress. Pandey declared his bid for the committee’s upcoming 3rd Central Convention, scheduled to be held in Virginia on August 14, 15, and 16.

Setting forth a transformative agenda, Pandey emphasized that the organization must move beyond traditional, limited activities and restructure into a modern, transparent, technology-friendly, and result-oriented institution.

Redefining Leadership and Digitalizing the Organization

Pandey envisions redefining the role of General Secretary from a passive administrative position that merely calls meetings and records minutes into an active, executive post responsible for overall administration, coordination, execution, and accountability. Administrative efficiency and strong execution form the core pillars of his candidacy.

To build an institutionalized system, Pandey proposes complete transparency across both financial transactions and organizational decision-making. His plan includes digitalizing all operations—from member registration and renewals to program tracking, record-keeping, and election processes—across every level from local chapters to the central committee.

“He who does not possess accurate data about his own organization cannot build a proper plan for its future,” Pandey stated while outlining his data-driven strategy.

Transforming the Committee into a Global Think Tank

Pandey’s manifesto aims to connect the collective knowledge, technological expertise, research capacity, entrepreneurship, and professional networks of Nepalis living in the United States with Nepal’s democratic and development processes. Under his vision, the Janasamparka Samiti USA would serve as an influential political think tank for the Nepali Congress.

He stressed that the US committee should not remain a passive body that simply sends proposals back to Nepal, but rather an institutional bridge transferring fresh ideas, policy recommendations, and technical expertise from the diaspora to Nepal.

Regarding youth engagement, Pandey advocated for moving past symbolic inclusion to granting young leaders real decision-making authority. He views generational handover not as the displacement of senior leaders, but as an institutional collaboration combining the political wisdom of veterans with the technological innovation and global exposure of the younger generation.

Long Political Legacy: From Nepal’s Student Politics to the US Diaspora

Pandey brings decades of political experience, human rights advocacy, and organizational leadership to his candidacy:

    Political Background in Nepal

    • Student Leadership: Pandey entered politics through the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), serving as Vice President at the Purwanchal Engineering Campus (IOE) in Dharan. He went on to serve in the NSU Sunsari District Committee and as Secretary of the Dharan Tarun Dal.

    • 2006 People’s Movement (62/63 Jana Andolan): During the historic 2006 democratic movement, Pandey held key leadership responsibilities within the secretariat of the Collective Campaign for Peace (COCAP), which coordinated operations for the movement’s central secretariat.

    • Human Rights Work: Prior to moving abroad, he spent nearly a decade in Nepal working extensively in the fields of human rights and Dalit rights.

    Engagement in the United States

    • Two Decades of Service: Pandey has been actively engaged with various community organizations in the United States for the past 20 years, with his primary political focus dedicated to the Nepalese Public Relations Committee.

    • Chapter Leadership: He previously served as the General Secretary of the committee’s California Chapter. Under his leadership, the California Chapter grew into the organization’s largest chapter worldwide, boasting over 2,200 members. He subsequently ran for Chapter President, finishing as the runner-up.

    • Advocating for Timely Conventions: When the central leadership struggled to conduct timely organizational conventions, Pandey played a key role as Vice President of a parallel committee formed to press for democratic timelines and organizational accountability.

With a strong foundation in political activism both in Nepal and the US, Pandey reiterates that his top priority remains replacing individual-centric politics with a sustainable, institutional system for the Nepalese Public Relations Committee USA.
