China to Use AI and Big Data for Elderly Care and Social Assistance

Beijing – China has announced plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and big data into elderly care and social assistance services.

As the country faces declining birth rates and a shrinking workforce, authorities are turning to advanced technologies to address these challenges.

According to China’s state news agency Xinhua, Minister of Civil Affairs Lu Zhiyan stated that AI and big data applications will be accelerated to enhance social assistance, elderly care services, and support for people with disabilities.

China’s population has declined for the third consecutive year in 2024, with more than 310 million people aged 60 or above. As the workforce shrinks, the use of technology is seen as a crucial strategy for sustaining future economic growth.
