Machhindra Clinches KP Oli Cup Title, Sanish Shrestha Named Best Player

Kathmandu – Machhindra FC secured the KP Oli Cup title by defeating Tribhuvan Army Football Club 2-0 in the final.

In the match held yesterday at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar, Machhindra took the lead in the 29th minute through an own goal by Army’s Bimal Pandey. In the 72nd minute, Stephen Jamaha sealed the victory with a goal, securing Machhindra’s third KP Oli Cup title, completing a championship hat-trick.

This was Machhindra’s fourth final appearance of the year. Earlier, they won the Itahari Gold Cup. Meanwhile, despite reaching the final for the first time this season, Army failed to claim the title.

Machhindra progressed to the final by defeating Bhutan’s Transport United 1-0 in the first match and overcoming host KP Oli FC 4-0 in the semifinal.

Army, on the other hand, beat Nepal Police Club 2-0 in the first match and Sankata 2-1 in the semifinal.

The tournament champions, Machhindra, received a cash prize of NPR 1,511,111, while the runners-up, Army, were awarded NPR 500,000.

The final match witnessed the presence of World Cup-winning Italian former captain and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Meanwhile, Machhindra’s Sanish Shrestha was named the tournament’s best player, receiving NPR 100,000 and a motorcycle as a reward.
