Police Clinches Jai Trophy Elite Cup, Defeats Army by 28 Runs

Kathmandu – Nepal Police Club secured the title of the Jai Trophy Elite Cup Cricket by defeating Tribhuvan Army Club by 28 runs in the final match.

Chasing a target of 103 runs set by Police, Army was bowled out for just 74 runs after the lunch break on the third day. Imran Sheikh was the top scorer for Army with 28 runs, while captain Binod Bhandari and Sompal Kami managed 11 runs each. None of the other batters reached double digits. Police’s Sagar Dhakal delivered an outstanding performance, claiming six wickets, while Lalit Rajbanshi took the remaining four.

In their second innings, Police had set a total of 139 runs, with notable contributions from Kushal Bhurtel, who scored 45 runs, and Dilip Nath, who added 34. For Army, Shahab Alam and Basir Ahmad shone with the ball, each taking five wickets.

Earlier, in Birgunj, Police batted first after losing the toss and declared their first innings at 133 runs for nine wickets. Army, in response, managed to score 170 runs in their first innings, securing a lead before being outplayed in the second innings.

The tournament featured four teams: Army, Police, Bagmati Province, and Madhesh Province. Police and Army advanced to the final, finishing first and second in the group stage, respectively.
