UK politicians urge ‘England Cricket Board’ to boycott match against Afghanistan in Champions Trophy

More than 160 British politicians have asked England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to boycott next month’s ICC Champions Trophy match with Afghanistan.

 After returning to power in 2021, the British politicians said that their team should boycott the match with Afghanistan, saying that the Taliban government discriminated against women, according to international media.

 The ninth edition of the Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9. England and Afghanistan are in the same group in this tournament. The Group B match between England and Afghanistan is scheduled to be played on February 26 in Lahore, Pakistan.

 But British politicians have sent a letter to the ECB suggesting that the England team boycott the match with Afghanistan. They have been pressuring the ECB to boycott the match against Afghanistan in the Champions Trophy.

 Labor Party MP Tonia Antoniazzi has urged England’s players and officials through a letter to speak against the abuse of women and girls in Afghanistan.

 Along with Britain, other countries have also been opposing the treatment of women and girls by the Taliban government in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board has said that it is trying to find a solution to the problem.
