Citizen Investment Trust Surpasses NPR 273 Billion in Fund Collection

Kathmandu – The Citizen Investment Trust (CIT) has accumulated a net fund balance of NPR 273.72 billion. Speaking at the institution’s 35th anniversary celebration, Chairperson Prof. Dr. Surya Bahadur Thapa highlighted the trust’s remarkable growth, stating that it has successfully mobilized a vast financial resource pool despite starting with a small capital base.

Established in 1990 (2047 BS) with an initial deposit of NPR 244 million, the trust now has a paid-up capital of NPR 6.48 billion. Currently operating seven different investment schemes, CIT has achieved a total financial resource accumulation of NPR 273 billion, including reserve funds.

As of mid-January (Poush end), the trust had invested NPR 264 billion across various sectors. With over 650,000 members, CIT has also made investments in shares and debentures.

Speaking at the event, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FNCCI), suggested that investment funds like CIT and the Employees Provident Fund should focus on productive sectors that generate employment.

CIT Chairperson Dr. Thapa also emphasized that the trust is committed to expanding investments in productive sectors such as agriculture, tourism, energy, and physical infrastructure development.
