Legendary singer Asha Bhosle passes away at 92

KATHMANDU — The world of music is in mourning following the death of the legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, who passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026. The 92-year-old icon breathed her last at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital following a cardiac arrest and subsequent multi-organ failure.

Bhosle had been admitted to the hospital on Saturday evening after experiencing extreme exhaustion and a chest infection. Despite being moved to the ICU, her condition worsened. Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed the news, stating that her last rites will be performed today, Monday, at Shivaji Park in Mumbai.

While globally recognized for her record-breaking career in India, Bhosle held a special place in the hearts of Nepalis. She was a central figure in the development of modern Nepali playback music, recording a vast catalog of songs that remain popular across the country today.
