Unforeseen Challenges and Perseverance: Journey to Pachpokhari
By Jeevan Timalsina
Just two years ago, a group of adventurous trekkers embarked on a journey that would test their physical and mental endurance. The destination: Pachpokhari, a place of religious and historical significance nestled in the heart of the Himalayas. The decision to undertake this trek came at a time when the economic downturn had cast a shadow over the usual grandeur of the Dashain festivities. Undeterred by the challenges, the group, led by Jeevan Timalsina, decided to celebrate Dashain in a unique way. Their journey began from Melamchi Bazaar in Sindhupalchok district, taking them through breathtaking landscapes and ancient villages. The trek was not for the faint of heart. The trail was steep, rocky, and at times treacherous.
The continuous ascent towards Gregar left them breathless, and the steep descents were equally demanding. Narrow ridges, loose rocks, and cliffhangers added to the sense of vulnerability. It was a test of both physical and mental fortitude. Upon reaching Pachpokhari, the group was rewarded with a view that confirmed the saying, “Nepal is heaven for real.” The exhaustion from the journey was replaced by a sense of accomplishment and awe at the natural beauty that surrounded them. However, the journey raised important questions. Why haven’t we promoted the rich biodiversity and natural beauty as a significant economic source? Why isn’t there better coordination among provincial and federal governments to ensure the safety and ease of access for travelers on these paths? The group also met local entrepreneurs, like Sagar Shrestha, who are actively involved in revitalizing the region.
The challenges faced by hotel owners in Pachpokhari, despite the potential for good earnings, shed light on the need for sustainable development in the area. In conclusion, the journey to Pachpokhari was not just a physical feat, but a reflection on the need to preserve and promote the natural beauty and biodiversity that our country is blessed with. It serves as a call to action for governments and individuals alike to invest in improving trail conditions and harness the potential of these paths as a source of revenue. The trekkers express their gratitude to Sagar Shrestha and their fellow companions who supported them on this remarkable 17th journey. Their story stands as a testament to the power of determination and the beauty that awaits those willing to embrace the challenges of the Himalayas.
